(#2 12-0) California 31 - (#3 11-1) Stanfurd 3
SAN FRANCISCO - California hosted Stanfurd today for The Big Game, the first to be held at AT&T park, a game full of importance for both sides. Today's game was arguably the most important Big Game ever, and both teams would be sufficiently motivated to win. Both teams came into this game undefeated and ranked in the Top 3, so the winner of this game would take the Pac-10 and enjoy an invitation to New Orleans for the National Title.
The Stanfurd Cardinal came prepared for this game, and their defense played the Bears tighter than any team had all year. QB Beau Sweeney didn't have his greatest game, but he did have Marvin Jones. Jones had his usual game and gave the Cardinal secondary heartburn, adding to their misery by scoring two of Cal's three TDs. Stanfurd also managed to keep Darrell Green under 100 yards for the first time since taking over as a starter, but they failed to keep him out of the endzone.
Stanfurd's offense looked decent, but QB Andrew Luck was unable to overcome the Cal defense. Luck was successful at orchestrating a long drive, but it ending in a FG which wasn't going to win this game. The Cardinal O-Line was able to keep Luck protected, but it didn't matter with Cal's secondary all over the receivers. In the end Stanfurd just didn't have what it takes to knock off Cal.
