(#2 13-0) California 21 - (#1 13-1) Alabama 0
NEW ORLEANS - Same teams, different venue. Alabama and California would meet again to decide the BCS National Champion, this time in Alabama's back yard. Crimson Tide fans would fill the seats, but most were worried about an upset similar to last year.
This game was similar to last year, but both teams managed to be less impressive on offense. Cal took the lead with an 83 yard TD strike from Beau Sweeney to Marvin Jones, and then settled into wearing down Alabama's defense. Sweeney went 12/15, and then went to Green/Deboskie-Johnson to eat away at the clock and tack on another 14 points.
Alabama's offense was missing WR Julio Jones and QB Greg McElroy, but they still had HB Mark Ingram. unfortunately they would need Jones and McElroy as AJ McCarron would struggle, and Ingram couldn't support the offence. Ingram was held to under 100 yards rushing, and Cal's blitzing managed to keep McCarron on his back or off target all game.
Alabama managed to hold Cal to their lowest point total of the season, but failed to get on the board themselves. Cal would become the first team ever to win back-to-back BCS Title games, and fans couldn't be happier back in Berkeley.
