(#2 9-0) California 56 - (4-6) Arizona State 0
SAN FRANCISCO - Arizona State heads to the Bay Area to face off against California, and returning Sun Devil players were ready to wipe out memories of last year when Cal torched them 77-0. Arizona State QB Steven Threet had a horrible game last year, so he is probably the most motivated to play well today. He will have to play extremely well, and win, if he wants to take the spotlight off Cal's Beau Sweeney. Sweeney is having an amazing year and leads the nation in QB Efficiency and TD passes, at this rate he could be at a certain ceremony in NY later this year.
Beau Sweeney broke his streak of 300 yard games and thew his first INT of he season, but Cal's offense barely shrugged against the Sun Devils' defense. The Golden Bears looked the same as the previous 8 games and Marvin Jones continued his march toward NY backed up by Darrell Green's rushing attack.
The Golden Bears' passing defense wasn't quite as sharp, but they ability to take the ball away helped them pitch yet another shutout. Sun Devil QB Stephen Threet threw for 149 yards, quite an accomplishment against Cal, but he balanced it out with 3INT. Arizona State couldn't runt he ball at all, so Threet was forced the throw just about every down and made it very easy for Cal to defend.
