2013-2014 Recruiting Round-Up

The Golden Bears suffered a slight setback on the recruiting trail and finished #2 (Rivals.com) behind Alabama. The Bears were the top class for most of the season and lost a few 5 star recruits to Alabama and fell below them. Few in this class figure to start right away, especially with the depth Cal shows on offense and defense. Look for some of these players to start in a year or two, especially the QB prospects.

Cal Beats Alabama... Again

(#1 13-0) California 63 - (#2 13-1) Alabama 0

PASADENA - California would be wire-to-wire #1 and welcome #2 Alabama, again, to play for the BCS Title. Cal has played Alabama for three of their four trips to the title game, so these two are very familiar with each other. Few hold out much hope for Alabama to finally beat Cal.

Cal pretty much came into this game committed to running the ball, and nothing stopped them. Nick Saban's Crimson Tide probably though Cal would throw on them quite a bit, but Coach London used the option to crush the Tide. QB Kyle Boehm did go 8/11 for 169 yards, his lowest total of the season, but most of his damage was done on the ground. The Golden Bears powered their way to 512 rushing yards between Boehm (178) and Darrell Green (332). When the dust had settled Green would finish the season with 3261 rushing yards and the new single season rushing record.

Green closes out a monster season.

Alabama must have thought that curling up in a ball would keep them safe, but it didn't. The Tide's QB, AJ McCarron, had a nightmare of a game. McCarron went 11/28 with 4INT, three of them by CB Terrence Miller. RE/OLB Austin English continued to shine with 9 tackles and a sack, Alabama didn't look like they wanted to be here and certainly didn't do anything to win the game.

Darrell Green does it again and becomes the second two-time winner of the Heisman. Green had an amazing season and once again finished just ahead of QB Kyle Boehm (#2) and WR Mike Brown (#3) in the voting. Green has one more chance in the BCS Title game to break a number of NCAA single season rushing records.

Stanfurd Crushed In Berkeley

(#1 12-0) California 63 - (4-8) Stanfurd 0

BERKELEY -
Today was the Big Game, not as big as it has been in the past, but playing Stanfurd is always one of the best parts of the season. The Cardinal is out of bowl contention and unranked, without Andrew Luck they will probably be more focused on not getting killed.

Snooze again. With the Pac-10 title in hand the Golden Bears went into "Get Green The Heisman" mode and ran most of their offense through him. Darrell Green walked away with 244 rushing yards, 114 receiving yards, and 7 total TD.

Give this man the Heisman!

Stanfurd spent most of the game curled up in the fetal position. Their offense was horrible and they basically did everything they could to make sure Cal kept the Axe.

Cal Clinches Pac-10 Against Trojans

(#22 7-4) USC 0 - (#1 11-0) California 70

LOS ANGELES -
The Golden Bears faced USC today, and a win would clinch the Pac-10. Oregon State, with a 7-1 conference record, would be rooting for USC and a Big Game loss to propel them into 1st.

The Golden Bears pretty much took this one easy. The only hiccup being a INT by QB Kyle Boehm, but aside from that it was business as usual. TE DeAndre Brown finally beat out his brother and led the team in yards, HB Darrell Green continued to pile up yards and TDs. Yawn.

Green continues to roll.

The USC offense, run by QB Brandon Richardson, needs a serious retooling. Richardson went 15/33 for 132 yards and 4INT. He was also very familiar with RE/OLB Austin English who sacked him four times. An easy win for the Bears.
