(1-0) California 77 - (0-1) UC Davis 0
BERKELEY - Cal opened their 2010 campaign with a severely lopsided win over UC neighbor Davis. Nobody expected much from UC Davis, and Cal's offense simply overpowered them from the start. Cal's HB Shane Vereen led the first half charge with a great warm-up performance, and senior QB Kevin Riley didn't need to do much at all. With a sizeable halftime lead the Bears subbed in their second team offense, giving QB Beau Sweeney and HB Covaughn DeBoskie-Johnson a chance to rack up some yards.
The Bears defense was dominant, which surprised nobody. Freshman DE/OLB Chris Martin earned the starting nod and showed how explosive he could be by destroying UC Davis from the edge. Nothing much can be learned from this game aside from the fact that Cal is at least better than an FCS school.
