Bears Look Sharp In Home Win Over Buffs

(2-0) California 31 - (1-1) Colorado 9

BERKELEY - Fans got to see Cal face their first FBS opponent today by hosting Colorado on a cold and overcast day in Strawberry Canyon. Cal haven't faced Colorado since a 31-17 road win in 1982, and the series is tied 2-2, so both teams would be facing unfamiliar opponents.

Colorado started the game by fumbling the ball away inside Cal's 15, but their defense stood pat and held the Bears to a FG inside the 5. The Buffs continued their defensive ways and stifled Cal's QB Kevin Riley and managed to go into the half with a 9-3 lead.

The second half was a completely different story for Cal as HB Shane Vereen took over the game. Vereen helped take the pressure off floundering Riley and allowed the Golden Bears to start scoring. Vereen found the endzone twice (rushing and receiving), and the Bears defense shut out Colorado to close out the game. Colorado didn't help themselves by fumbling the ball twice inside Cal's 20.

Vereen finds the endzone to give Cal a 23-9 lead
